Workplace-based Assessment: Training for GP Trainers
We have received a number of enquiries from trainers about who
will provide their training in the use of the WPBA tools. The
RCGP has agreed with COGPED that deaneries will take responsibility
for ensuring GP trainers are fully familiar with the use of the
tools. This fits with the role of deaneries in appointing trainers
and quality assuring the local delivery of workplace based
assessment. It also means that training will normally be provided
locally to trainers.
The RCGP has provided training and resources for senior GP
educators nominated by their deaneries to cascade the training to
GP trainers. The RCGP can put trainers in touch with the
appropriate person in their deanery if required.
RCGP/e-Learning for Healthcare e-Learning Project
The e-Learning Project has been set up to produce
e-learning modules to underpin the RCGP GP Curriculum. The modules
will offer a blended approach to learning and a resource that can
be accessed anywhere at any time and be followed at the learner’s
own pace. If you would like to become involved with the
project as a writer or content editor please contact Kate
Tunnicliffe at postgraduatetraining@rcgp.org.uk
to obtain further information.
Update on curriculum, assessment and quality management
A letter has been
sent to all Faculties and GP Directors by the Chair of the RCGP
Postgraduate Training Committee, Dr Bill Reith, with an update
on the curriculum, assessment and plans for quality management
arrangements.
GP Educator Support Group
Consists of experienced GP educators spread across the UK and
the purpose of the group is to act as a conduit for sharing ideas
and information about the GP training curriculum and to support the
roll out of the curriculum and workplace based assessment by
deaneries.
ePortfolio
ePortfolio - the RCGP has contracted with NHS
Education for Scotland to develop an electronic learning portfolio
to support learning and assessment throughout training (and to be
used afterwards for CPD throughout a GP’s career).
All GPStRs will require an ePortfolio for WPBA. This will be
available as part of the Associates in Training
package. Testing of the ePortfolio is in progress and it will
be available for use once testing is complete.
Resources
Quality assurance criteria have been agreed for all types of
resources and educational tools and will be signposted from the
website.
Evaluation of the RCGP GP Training Curriculum
The RCGP is setting up a project for the evaluation of the new
RCGP GP Training Curriculum during the first three years of its
implementation. It is intended that the evaluation will improve our
understanding of how GP Specialty Registrars learn through a
competence based curriculum and identify the strengths and
weaknesses of the curriculum.
