May 2011 CSA

Results Summary

878 candidates sat CSA examinations between 12 and 25 May, 402 (45.8%) of whom were first time applicants. 563 candidates in all were successful resulting in an overall pass rate of 64.1%. The pass rate for first time applicants was 77.9%. 59 candidates were making a fourth attempt or more at the examination and of these just 18 were successful.

The mean score for the entire cohort was 77.2 out of 117, with the highest score being 111 marks. 22 candidates scored 100 marks or more.

The minimum score achieved was 48 marks. 19 candidates scored 20 or more marks below the passing mark: only three of these were on their first attempt, 14 were on their second, one on their third, and one on their fifth go.

Caution: it is in the nature of the training cycle that cohorts of candidates differ considerably so these results should not be used to draw any conclusions about the likely pass rate for other cohorts. The next MRCGP annual report will give a more accurate picture of pass rates for the whole year.
