Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

As a requirement of completing MRCGP, all Trainees must demonstrate competence in CPR and automated external defibrillation (AED). The suggested route for achieving this is to submit a valid certificate of competence in CPR & AED into your ePortfolio via the Learning Log and this can be validated against the appropriate competency area in the ePortfolio by your Educational Supervisor.

Any expenses or fees incurred are the responsibility of the candidate.

Candidates will be required to show competence in Adult Basic Life Support and the correct use of a pocket mask) followed by the safe and competent use of a modern external automated defibrillator in a patient with a shockable rhythm.

Candidates will not be expected to use advanced airway techniques (such as endotracheal intubation) or administer drugs.

A certificate signed by a Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS instructor or equivalent is acceptable.
