e-GP : Being a General Practitioner
RCGP/e-Learning for Healthcare e-Learning Project
e-GP is a new initiative to develop
online modules which will underpin the RCGP GP Curriculum
and assist GPs with their Continuing Professional
Development. The aim is to support traditional training
mechanisms by offering a blended approach to learning and a
resource that can be accessed anywhere at any time and be followed
at the learner’s own pace. The first modules will be available by
August 2008.
The e-GP project provides an unusual opportunity for
GPs at all levels of practice experience to develop relevant and
effective support for learning and professional development.
Module editors and writers needed
We are recruiting module editors and session authors to work
with an experienced support team of software engineers from
e-Learning for Healthcare. Modules will be built from a number of
short bite-sized interactive learning modules, each focusing on a
number of key learning objectives.
If you are interested in becoming involved either as an author
or module editor please contact Kate Tunnicliffe for further
information (postgraduatetraining@rcgp.org.uk)
with your name, contact email address and area of interest.
You can also register your interest through the e-GP
section of the e-LfH website.
Setting up the project
The project is led by Council member Dr Bill Reith, Chair of the
Postgraduate Training Board, and by Clinical Project Lead Dr Ben
Riley.
The first priority set by the e-GP project group is to address
as the learning needs of registrars progressing through specialist
training. The project is designed so that over time the content
will become progressively more relevant to the needs of all
registrars and subsequently all GPs and will contribute towards
appraisal, certification and re-certification.
Getting involved
Are you
- a GPStR or recently certified GP willing to help us define and
meet your priority learning needs?
- A current or recent MRCGP candidate with materials that could
form the basis of a learning session?
- A GP who has taught medical students, foundation doctors or
specialist registrars who has a tried and tested approach that
could be developed for e-learning?
- A GP involved with the organisation of training in your
Deanery, member of an Academic Unit or part of a Clinical Network
who could work as a team to provide several sessions linked
together as a module?
- Someone with experience of e-learning either as provider or
learner?
If you are, we would like to hear of your ideas and
interests.
Please contact Kate Tunnicliffe for further information
(postgraduatetraining@rcgp.org.uk).
You can also register your interest through the
e-GP section of the e-LfH website.
